The last few days I have been off and on working on this beast. The origional data was entered into a free program off the internet called "It's Full of Stars", a neat program allowing you to create your own star systems and flesh them out with the details. The map can be 3D or 2D. I wanted a version to eventually printout so flattened the map into 2D. Many systems will appear to be close, however are actually very far away from each other. The number next to the name will either have a positive or negative number. That is how many light years the star is above or below the galactic equator. I have wanted to compile a game map like this for my little gaming universe for some time, now its become reality. I am still fixing the map and need to go though and clean up the lettering of the system names and add the new map symbols. This map is the result of several games that have lasted years of real time. Most (but not all) of the stars are based on real stars in our part of the Galaxy, going out about 200 light years. I used a template that was available on the site to save me the time. I just renamed the systems in the program and copied screenshots and compiled image to do rest of editing in paint shop pro. The Green lines are Standard Hyperspace routes The Purple lines are Dangerous/Unreliable Pirate/Smuggler routes The Red lines are the Imperium Legions Exclusive Military hyperoutes. This map is actually 50% the size of the one I will be using for my gaming. Hope to print this beast out someday.

Kinkos could print this out nicely for you. It might cost a bit because of all the black but having dealt with lots of printers Kinkos really does the best.

Thanks for the input guys! I definitely want to get a poster sized printout for the wall, so that during games I can just point to it to determine distance traveled and stops along the way, etc... Hope to also eventually write the standard distance on each of the routes too! (Though thats a job for some other day, maybe in a week or two...)

I used to go to the print shop to get my game maps laminated, pricey but damn it works. Impressive map, I, too, have a couple game worlds with a few real years of life to them,

Wow, I am trying to make an RP map but I have no idea where to begin. It's all in my head, now just getting it on paper is a whole different matter

Well I have a program that could help with that. If you want I could probably email it to you.

The map reminds me of The Third Imperium from the Traveller RPG. So what RPG system you are using for your setting?

This pisses me off. I replied to this topic ealier and the board deleted my post. Doesnt happen often but when it does it gets really annoying...
Back to replying to the question, I run GURPS 3rd edition. Actually prepping a totaly different universe game setting for some players in Portland. Already got customs in the works based on that new verse as well!

I keep forgetting that I have that book - more or less. Years ago, I bought a cheap bootleg copy (a red cover copy with xerox coped pages, that looks like it was made at Kinko's or something) at a used book store. It is such an unassuming, and unused book, I forget I even have it. For some reason, the rules don't interest me much. On the other hand, I enjoy the supplemental books - mostly as guide books, then for the game content.

One reason I like gurps is there are not defined "character classes". I hate character classes.
