I received today the SDCC 2009 Hasbro Design Sketchbook volume 2 and wanted to share some of the info. This book is full of real cool drawings of concepts, piece by piece toy schematics, and animations which maybe usefully for customs. I have also scanned some images That I hope you will find interesting.
The book seems to place Hasbro's products by toy line sections in this order Transformers; GI Joe; one page of Action Man; My Little Pony; Untitled sections consisting of some Avatar looking characters, Fantasy, Alien creatures, motor bikes; Marvel; Star Wars; Indiana Jones; Star Wars vehicles; and GI Joe vehicles. Each section has the toy line titles on the upper corner of each page, however the pages are not numbered. There seems to be 82 pages if you count the pages with images.
In each toy line there are subgroups like mighty muggs and heroes (etc combat heroes) drawings, which are easy to distinguish, nevertheless some of the figure drawings can fit in almost any section within the toy line. Example: in the transformer section the movie toys and cartoon animated series are easily distinguished from the other subgroups, but in the GI Joe section there are schematic, anime, comic, and cartoon style drawings of characters which can fit in any Joe line.
Is this masked character on the upper left corner Firefly, Beachhead, Shockwave, or someone new?
Here is an image of an anime style drawing of GI Joe Roadblock with Transformers Autobot Hound, where do they fit in the toy line?
The GI Joe vehicle images are straight forward. Here is an example:
This Action Man page has some interesting concept drawings, which look a lot like some of the new Joes coming down the pike.
The Star Wars vehicle section is interesting. There are two pages of C3PO driving 3 spacecrafts with R2 in them, are these drawings representative of a reboot cartoon Droids line?
On the inside covers are two piece by piece concept schematics of unidentified vehicles. The inside front cover has a vehicle of a plane with a similar handle to the GI Joe ROC Night Raven. Is this a new Joe plane coming soon?
On page 19 that I counted (since there are no page numbers) is a interesting drawing that appears to be kids dressed in Halloween costumes of Destro, Gung-Ho and MASK team member Buddy Hawks with Penetrator mask. If they are drawing MASK characters, maybe they are planing a MASK reboot?
Also, on the back inside cover there is a schematic of a piece by piece concept toy race car with missile launcher, appears to be wings, and a 6 piece action figure with a mask on. If you look at the figure on the bottom right corner his joint design is similar to the 80's style MASK figures. Could this be a MASK concept?
If they do make a MASK reboot line, they need to change the scale to Joe size like the 25th Matt Tracker figure.
I hope you find these images interesting as I have.
Enjoy
