Ok, growing up as a youngster, as many people know, I gravitated torwards science fiction and horror movies. Specifically horror. One of my favorite horror experiences at age 7 was the Toxic Avenger 3. I didn't get all the jokes, but thought it was funny and creepy. I fell in love with Troma films since.
Well, one year later The Toxic Crusaders, a cartoon based off our hero Toxie premiered...and fizzled before my weeping eyes. Where was the violence and the blood I asked. Finally I oculd have a Toxic Avenger action figure though...
well...
here's how Toxie looked in the movies...
And...um...the toy...
Now...see my concern for a moment...As a kid some liked the cartoon enough to buy the toys, but I was the only one who was of the wiser mind knowing such crap could not enter my toy box. Hell, that's not even Toxie! But, my loyalt for Toxie persisted and I watched the cartoon without buying the toys, a rarity in the late 80s early 90s.
So come full circle, Baltimore Comic Con 2006 I buy that Toxie for 50 cents. Well, some might say I paid too much....They'd be wrong. After spending two years of staring at that dayglo masacre, I finally stood up and decided I want to improve it! In a custom I call "THE REAL TOXIE!!!"
The "WIP" Pix.
My biggest problem when I paint is shaking, because of the medication I take. When I paint or draw or write, I start shaking and it messes everything up, but this time I was determined.
The other obstacle was his damn head. I have never seen anyone fall in Toxic Waste and have a perfect roll of chops, so the teeth were the first to be painted. His eye also served as an issue as well. It popped out not on purpose, but on accident, so I dipped in white paint and drew a little goofy eye on there. I wish took pix of beofre and after, but I didn't.
He's getting there. Kinda looks like the Croc dude from Batman. In fact looks more like a Crocadile than the Croc due from Batman.
Finally...
I had to give him a mop, so I took an old broom from a WWF Figure, chopped the head off and put a bunch of yarn. I hope to fix it too look more like a mop soon.
I GIVE YOU TOXIE!
Persistance really paid off in what I feel is a great looking Toxie. But, as always criticsm(good or bad), please.
Hope you enjoyed it!
