This probably wont appeal to everyone here, and I have to apologize for the quality of some of the pictures, the lighting sucks in here, the clinic is open so I cant wander off to shoot pics of toys, and I still don't know how to use all the features on my camera yet.
Anyway.
This figure is from a line called Busou Shinki (which I'm sure means "Round-eye who can not get laid", as that seems that's who they market this line to).
I have no idea of the premise of the line, but they all are women who have a ton of weapons and mecha like armor. They are all HIGHLY articulated and come with a ton of stuff.
This is the one that really caught my eye, Waffe Dolphin, who looks like a futuristic female SEAL.
The box art:
The figure, which stands about 6" tall.
The face place sits in a track and slides down, she has four air tanks on the front, each one is a separate and removeable piece:
Back view. The fin on the back of the head is removable, the long fin-like things, which I think are supposed to be some form of propulsion, move and the tube-like jet coming off the top has a hinge in it so you can change the direction of the nozzle. There is also a removable air tank under the jet.
What sold me on the SEAL idea? The fact that they made this thing to operate OUT of the water too. First off, she has an interchangeable head, the ponytail is movable/removable:
Ready to operate on dry land? Don't need the air tanks any more? Fine. She comes with three small caps to plug up the holes where the air tanks fit. No gaping holes in your toy just because you want to play with it in a diffrent role. (Personally, I think that is just too cool.)
There is a back piece that attaches so you can put gear in any arrangement. The square hole is so you can attach her to a figure stand. This would be perfect if you want to display her in a swimming position:
Some gear added:
Close up of the jet nozzle and propulsion flippers:
Ready to fight on dry land? Not quite. We've got those boots with the build in flippers still. Fine, the lower legs swap out on these figures.
There. Regular legs:
The arm comes apart mid-arm so you can attach the armor and she has Microman style hands so you can remove the hand and add the armor at the wrist. The mid-leg also comes apart so you can add a piece of armor there.
Still have some of that dive vest left. No problem the breast piece switches out from armor to just a regular set of boobs.
She comes with enough weapons to make even me happy, as I tend to over-quip my guys.
And with a couple more weapons from another set, she's ready for anything:
Ok, the pros:
Highly, highly articulated.
Interchangeable head.
Tons of gear.
Awesome design.
Tons of play potential.
Everything is interchangeable with everything else from other figures in the line.
Most of the other figures in the line come with armor that transforms into a mech-like item for the figure or some sort of vehcile (or BOTH!) and a couple of the upcoming waves, all the armor from each figure combines into one BIG mech!
There are several online games and 3-D art programs for this line and each figure comes with a secret code to unlock stuff in the games.
Not overtly anime-looking. The proportions of the figure are very much like Mircoman, just bigger, and realistic weapons make any anime features easy to ingnore.
Since the perfect figure has yet to be made, the cons:
This is a weapons and head set. Figure NOT included. The gear and head is on a black blank body, kinda like Microman.
The joints an pegs wear easy, making everything loose. This blank is second hand so thing are a little loose and will only get looser with play.
Tons of little parts to get lost. I have a couple different figures from this line here and I have yet to open them, and doubt I will while I am here for fear of losing something.
Price. The Japanese stuff tends to be pricey as a rule.
Low production and Japanese distribution. This stuff really wasn't made for the gajin, so its hard to get a hold of and all the writing is in Japanese, including instructions and online game codes. (However the instructions are HIGHLY detailed drawings of how to put her together.)
Female only line. Don't get me wrong. I love female action figures and am a firm believer that there are not enough of them made, but I think males made for this line could be some of the coolest figures ever.
Scale. She towers over SW and Joe figure and is just slightly out of scale with Halo figures (Which is truely a shame, because they would be perfect together, however, Halo weapons do work this this figure as well as these weapons for the Halo figures), but is in perfect scale with the Iron Man line, which is great because they are rapidly becoming some of my favoirte toys.
That's a lot of "cons"! Do they outweigh the "pros"? Not even CLOSE. Difficulty finding them and price would be the only things that might turn the random collector off.
The Japanese, they make some of the coolest toys. Be it Microman, VOTOMS (Scopedogs) or this line, they know how to take an idea an knock it out of the park!
Well, there you go. I hope you enjoyed this, it was fun to write a review again.
