I just picked up a new animated debut boba fett to do a super articulated version of. This is a prelude I hope to doing the full ensamble from the animated part of the christmas special. I have been wanting to do the beast mount which boba rode on during the episode and make it articulated as well, not just a sculpture....
I have also thought about making boba fett's silver speeder from the animated "Droids" series to go along with the theme.
My question to you guys is how should I start on this? I have read through the tutorial on the super articulated clone trooper but I don't have those ball joints and whatnot to start with...
How could I make this figure have the ball jointed hips if I don't have those parts to start out with? I was thinking about maybe taking and chopping up a 25th joe, but again I have no idea what the insides of the joes look like or if they would even work for this.
would you guys know of a good joe figure which could work as the hips if I can even use one?
any advice for this would be greatly appreciated. This is the most complicated custom I have tried yet so I want to do it right nad not frak it up.

microman hips/ball sockets would work best. Usually the upper leg sockets can easily be inserted into star wars upper legs and the plastic T-bar modified with some dremeling into the crotchal area should work well. I have modified many star wars figures this way. My Rhen Vhar expedition Darth Vader, Ahntek the Gand Mandalorian, some stormtroopers and few others. When I can find some pics of the process I will try to post them.

is the process similar to what is done in hawkey's tutorial on the super articulated clone trooper. He used the microman joints in it didn't he?

well i've got it finished, I don't have all the progress pictures uploaded but here are some teasers of what he looks like now. You know you want some of that... a comparison, stock on left custom on right.

the standing pose you have him in in the comparison picture is awkward looking so it's hard to tell if the new MM joints caused the "rode a horse yesterday, walking funny today" stance or if he's just like that with the super straight legged and static posed Hasbro figure.
fan-goddamn-tastic idea though, you definitely deserve kudos for it. Fett needs to be able to move.

in some poses he does seem to have a bit of a bowlegged feel... However in most I don't think he does. I honestly didn't use too much of the microman style stuff. Instead I used some quilting pins which had a similar sized ball on it. However on the right leg's joint I drilled the hole a little too big and had to improvize a little bit....
I'll post some wip pics in the "how I did that" section eventually

well crap. The legs fell off my fett. I am still not happy with the ability of this figure to move. yeah he has more articulation but like I said the legs kept falling off and the ball joints were poorly made. That's my fault. So... I'm going to revisit this thing and do it one better. I realy like the joe's articulation and I think I can take a joe figure's waist and legs and put it on this figure, repaint it and it will look 1000 times better than what it does now.
My problem is I'm not very knowledgable about the joe figs and I've only seen a handfull. I need some ideas on what joe fig's legs will work best for a boba fett figure.
If all else fails I'll get a random fig and do sculpting on it to make it look right. I am going to order some apoxie sculpt soon finally!

honestly, with the size difference, maybe a lady jay fig would work.

Narc you might have been right... I went to wall mart today and picked up a "joe Hawk" for the hips, thighs, and knees. It was the closest thing to boba's legs that I saw available at wall mart. I probably could have gotten something a little better from the flea market up the road but they up the prices a little to high for something I'm just going to chop up.
so I took and dremeled off the hawk's waist and removed the lower legs from it. I took the original boba fett lower legs and dremelled them out to fit onto the double knee joint of the Goe figure. I then worked out a connection for the waist to fit into the torso of the fett figure... and voila super articulated boba. OH MY GOD IT WAS NOT THAT EASY! haha.... it sounds easy and simple when I write it out......
So I also repainted everything with a fresh coat of my own mixed colors and it's finally finished.... maybe.
I'll post pics in my best of section and star wars soon.
