Some pics of WIPs; Zandar: I wanted a more bad ass, stealth infiltrator, survivor look for ol' Zandar here. In the ATR he is in search of Zartan with Zarana. Zarana: Dr. Golobulus: Krang: General Eisenkopf: 1st Sgt (still need a name): Alpine: Not sure bout this one. I know I want the Destro lower legs. Suvivor 1: This one I want to somehow add elbow articulation. I see her as a girl maybe 13-15 who takes no prisoners. Survivor 2: Inspired by a head cast from Straxus

Very cool stuff going on there!
Though to make sure credit goes where its due the head I sent you that you are using for survivor #2 is a re-cast of a trigate head.
The girl's elbows could easily be articulated with those new hobby hinges I found. (I found them an hour after mailing stuff off to you.)
Cool version of Zandar and like what your doing with Zarana too. The spiked hair is really cool. Might need to borrow that idea. I cast up a few Mariss Brood heads (though no idea where they are, unless I shipped them out.)
Wait, is Zandar's head from Darth Maul?

Thanks man. Where can I get those hinges? Her arms are tiny so they'd have to be really small. Yes, Zandar's head is Darth Maul

Best take on Zandar I've ever seen!!! I love that he has the blue skin and that is a *brilliant* use of a Darth Maul head. The very best!
Zarana is a totally new and different and modern and cool-as-hell new spin on the character and it's way overdue, and just at the WIP stage I'm already saying it might be one of the best versions of her I've seen.

Fenian: My St Patrick's Day Challenge figure, needs paint and accessories.
(No name): My Spare Parts Challenge figure, needs paint and accessories.
Shockwave/blast: Needs paint and accessories.
Breach: (SWAT Breacher) Needs paint.
ATR Shipwreck: Needs accessories.
Golobulus: Still needs paint.

Hell I added 5 more WIPs to this list. I've decided I can't really buy anything else till we all meet up and so I'm going through my fodder to make stuff. I made 3 female additions from scraps.

So as I mentioned over at JC, I noticed both Zandar and Zarana are using Zabrakian heads. Coincidence?
Any progress on these figures?

You know what, I don't know enough about SW to even know the races. I just really liked the facial expressions. As far as progress Zandar is complete, Zarana needs me to sculpt her top, which means I need to buy more green stuff. Ebay here I come.

Hey now. I enjoyed that movie. Having had the opportunity to speak to both Will Eisner and after his death his wife I think Will would have liked it. It had its short comings but most movies do. I liked the stylized way of filming and the film noir feel. The way it combined the 20s, 30s, and modern elements was visually interesting. The dialogue was okay and the story sort of flat, but it was well in line with a lot of the original comics in the sense that it was trying to push the envelope and attempted to go outside the norm. It may have fell short but I still really liked it.

I liked the noir feel & the style it was shot in, I had high hopes for it. The terrible dialogue & bad story made me come closer to walking out of a movie than I ever have & I sat through a free showing of Catwoman.

didn't frank miller write that flick ?
never saw it though ^^

See that's the difference, I didn't have high hopes for it. The reason being that The Spirit isn't a modern character, he doesn't have the built in fan base of Spidey or Supes so the company making it didn't need to care for it all that much.
|
|
|
Post by adrienveidt on Apr 26, 2010 8:24:36 GMT -5
so the company making it didn't need to care for it all that much. And THAT's the real reason why the flick stank. If the creators don't care, why should I? It's a crying shame the flick came out at the same time Darwyn Cooke was doing the comic so all of us that read it knew what we were really missing.

You misunderstand my quote. The creators cared. Frank Miller idolized Will Eisner. The studio didn't care, and let's be honest they don't care about any movie, all they care about is $$$$. Along those lines the studios didn't give it a) the funding that would have allowed them to really knock it out of the park, the time, or the PR.
Darwyn Cooke's run on Spirit was great but the movie was supposed to be more in the line of Eisner's with a twist of Miller.

Did some paint work last night. Finished T'Jbang for the most part, all I had left was the eyes and they started out great and ended in a failure. My personal Iron Man armor is near complete, just need a few details added which I'm going to try and finish tonight. My ATR ninja is done. I'll take pics sometime.

A couple new WIPs. An as of yet unnamed assassin. I really like the way the parts for this guy came together. Bishop. Just need to do some eyes, tighten up the belt and figure out where to sneak in a lil more yellow. Battle Armor Cobra Commander??? Not sure what or who this is just like the parts. Any ideas??? Lastly this Ninja. Thanks to Daremo I've been inspired to use some of my Ninja fodder. If you can figure out who this guy will be when completed I will send you a Joe custom. That's right I'll send you a custom of my own creation.
