ok guys here is one of my current projects. I am showing this here and here only for now, because this is one of the most dedicated to work groups I have had the pleasure to join. I know you will take it seriously and give me legitimate input. I have that when you get a torso to use as a base there is a belt when you dont want one or you need to cover up a shirt collar or the muscles are too pronounced or any other number of things. So I am working on a line of completely blank torsos of differing sizes. no muscles, no clothing, no wrinkles, no belts, nothing. Just a blank torso with a new and different abdomen joint, and thats it. They will all be 25th, ROC, POC compatible as far as arms, legs, and heads go. I am nearly finished with my first Tabula Rasa variant. The long waist body. I still need to fill that little divit in the chest then polish him up. But I thought I would show it to you guys and see about some input. Let me know what you think and if this is something any of you would be interested in.

I would probably be interested in them for sure. are you going to cast the parts once you polish it up and get it to a blank slate? I think this is an excelent Idea. It would make alot of the figures I make 100 times simpler, especially the star wars-joe style crossover figures. This way I'd have a blank torso to use and be able to make it whatever I wanted from scratch...
the only problem I'm seeing right now is that if your NOT going to cast these and make duplicates of your base then it is going to be alot of work for each blank figure. and if you ARE casting them then you'll have to kit bash parts from an existing figure to get the metal t-bar for the hips and the peg fitting for the torso joint anyway...
so... in theory I think it's an excelent Idea, in practical aplication I think it's more work than it's worth... and if your going to need something like this in a project then you could just buy a cheap figure with the style of torso you needed and just sand it down like you just did, taking out the need for having to get those parts I just mentioned.
of course... if you have some means of making or obtaining those parts to make a complete "stock" blank torso that you can duplicate easilly... then yes, awesome idea!

Ohh yeah sanding down a fig to nothing every time would be far more work than it is worth. That is why I plan on molding and producing these. And when I up them to the store they will come with a cast T-bar. That while not as strong as a metal one, still has a lot of strength to it. So when it arrives you will have everything you need to put it together once you finish it. The new ab joint will be built into the torso, so there will be no reason or need to sacrifice another figure to build a new one. I always hated that part. Like I said these are marketed towards more in depth customizers. Folks who are going to do a good amount of sculpting anyway. And I figure they will be 6 bucks each in the store, I think the work they save the customizer is worth the price.

Sounds good. A lot of folk have talked about doing this before, but nothing ever came from it.

for the ab joint I am going with a built in ball and socket style. It will work in the same way that the shoulders do. The two halves will close over and hold the end of the ball. No loose parts, nothing to fall out. simple and easy.

Yeah, that looks like something that might come in handy...

Great idea! It might be good to have a generic muscular torso for scultping over too.

hell yes. that ball and socket joint idea is pure genious. I can see this as being succesfull now.
As for the T-bar for the hip-balls... have you ever tried to cast a metal rod into any of your casts? I've seen/heard other people doing it but have never tried it myself. I was just thinking that just a small metal rod (piece of a paperclip?) inside the t-bar cast resin piece would increase it's durability.
I'd actually be interested in getting some of these, especially at only 6 bucks.

I have not thought about adding bits to the T-bar, but I am not against giving it a whirl. I just need to get ahold of some paperclips. Thats not a bad idea Spud. I am also working on a large torso, for bigger figures. If I could get ahold of a decent "muscled" chest (or is someone wanted to sculpt me one " with no belts or goofy ripples I would go for one of those too. I should have pics to show of the big torso later today.

ok as promised here is a WIP shot of the second torso I am working on. It still needs a good bit of sculpt work to smooth out some of the "built in accessories" holes. and a side by side, just to show that they are different enough to justify doing them both. I have plans to do one that is in the middle between them in size. Rasa 1 is long waisted and short chested. the next size up is the short waisted longer chested type.

The first three variants are now under rubber. so long as the molds are viable you should see them sometime tomorrow.

and here they are. I was casting some heads, that why they are flesh tone. The (possibly) First Three Tabula Rasa Sculptors Torsos Superhero, for when you absolutely need a sixpack, big man, and average citizen. and the backs Please tell me what you think.

These look great! So many ideas...
As for the paper clip idea for inserting in middle of the T-Bar casts, I would suggest those textured paperclips, which will give more for the plastic to hold onto should the plastic cracks.

this is realy an awesome project. I am definately interested in buying some of these...
I have a request. I'm in dire need of some lower torsos from the resolute cobra commander. I was curious how dificult it'd be for you to cast up that torso set? it may not be as lucrative as these but I know that the lower half of the resolute cobra commander torso works best with alot of the star wars customs I've done using the joe styled hips.
