This is easily the stupidest thing I've ever built, but I'm determined to see it through. See, when the Volcano Viper/Lava Pod was announced, I thought it would be awesome to build a super-villain style volcano base for them to populate. Then they were canceled in this country. But I still wanted to make the base. So I built, and built, and realized I needed parts I didn't have, so I got those, and kept building, and only then did I realize that this thing is REALLY FUCKING HUGE and I don't necessarily have the space available for it. So I'm going to have to clear some stuff out to store it, and it's not even done yet (right now it's just a facade...I plan on working on the interior soon). At any rate, here are the WIPs, starting with when I was just piecing it together, to where it is as of yesterday: I threw a Neo Viper in there for scale (you can also kinda see the bottom of my Terror Drome in the last pic, if that gives you any idea of size). This is my first experiment with using foam, and I'm fairly happy with how it turned out.

Most cool. Why no interior shot? Love the look of the lava, is that just paint or something more? It looks like it could be melted clear plastic that you let run as it wanted to go. You got any tips or tricks for my Secret Lair?

You got any tips or tricks for my Secret Lair? I haven't actually started on the interior yet, so it's just the typical Cobra Mountain interior at this point. To make the lava, I first painted the paths I wanted silver (to reflect light and give it a 'glow' look). Then I went over it with hot glue, and then painted the hotglue with transparent orange paint. Your secret lair looks awesome. I thought about going the paper mache route instead of the foam route with mine, but decided it wouldn't be sturdy enough for what I needed it to do. The only suggestion I can think of is to flatten out some areas on the main structure so you can pose figures/accessories there.

Man I'm looking at this again and I freaking love it. Did you cover or coat the foam? What paints are you using?

this looks realy awesome. It reminds me alot of a plastic dinosaur mountain I used to have as a kid, only 10000 times more awesome! I would have LOVED to have somehting like this growing up to play with. I can't imagine the scale of this project... these are the kinds of projects that I start but never finish because I get bored or frustrated with them.

The foam is covered with a cheap patching plaster, both to add to the sturdiness and because I'm using Krylon Fusion spray paint which would have melted the foam if it was applied directly.
