That's right, its finally out.
A lot of us have been waiting for this one for a long time.
Now that's it out, does it measure up to our hopes and dreams?
Let's find out:
Found at: Target
Price: 29.95
Target, easy enough. Price is the same as the preorder from BBTS, so far so good.
In the box:
Back of the box:
This thing looks like a beast on the shelf. It's made of a hard but sturdy plastic, so it should stand up to play and heavy customizing just fine.
Out of the box:
Nice, tight paint apps, the tires are not solid but a medium hardness plastic that gives a little when you squeeze.
First interesting note: The mini gun is attached to the platform at two hinges and is removable.
Down side: It doesn't stay in the vehicle too well and there are no foot pegs of any kind in the bed of the vehicle.
Up side: Easy to customize, the platform makes for a handy removable gunner station.
Joint 1:
Joint 2:
The interior is nicely sculpted with a steering wheel, gear shift and first aid kits and there is a non functional wench sculpted to the front:
3/4 view:
Alright, so far this thing is awesome. Built well, nice paint apps, great sculpting but the question on everyone's mind now is compatibility.
I've used three lines of figures to find that out. Joes, MU/IM and Halo.
First, Joes:
Yeah, it's a beast
I think this is all going to be subjective for each collector and customizer.
You can see that the lowest point of the cab comes right to Recondo's shoulder. That's pretty big. However, I have been in armored, IED resistant vehicles that had the same scale. I had to climb up into these bad boys. So, based on first hand experience, this isn't really gonna be a problem for me.
However:
"WTF? I cant even reach the steering wheel!"
Yeah.
So is it too big or not? We all remember cramming Joe figures into vehicles and barely having them fit. Not a problem here.
Now for Halo figures:
Halo Reach figures first. Jorge and Emile:
The scale is a lot nicer for sure, based on what the Warthog is supposed to be.
I'll start with Jorge who is the largest of the line (and one hell of a cool toy BTW)
He doesn't even come close to fitting behind the wheel. I didn't expect that he would though.
He's just a bit too big for the other side too. Damn.
But he's just fine in the back.
Emile is just a bit bigger than the older Halo 3 guys but he fits just fine behind the wheel, riding shotgun and in the back:
Now the Halo 3 Master Chief:
Perfect fit.
I tried out Recon War Machine for shits and giggles:
I couldnt get one of his hips to cooperate with me, but he actually fits in there better than what it looks like.
And in the back:
Finally the comparison shot between all lines. Iron Man, Halo Reach, Halo 3 and GI Joe.
Overall rating: I'm gonna go 8.5 out of 10. Taking off for scale issues and the loose gun platform.
Playability: 10/10. This thing is a beast and will stand up to heavy play.
Customizing potential: 9/10. I think there is a lot one could do with this thing.
Scale compatibility:
Joe: 7/10. It'll work for an uparmored heavy vehicle, but if you were looking for a futuristic VAMP, small and light, this aint it.
Halo: 8/10. Works perfect for Halo 3 guys but its just a bit small for my Halo Reach Jorge and is tight for Emile.
Iron Man: 7/10. Same reasons as the Joes.
