You guys didnt really think I wasnt going to make a HoA dio, did you? First, a major thanks to Darko, who told me what I needed and how to get started on this. I'll explain the backstory when I finish, until then, you'll just have to be happy with pics. It was supposed to be open on this side but two walls were not enough to support the weight, so I had to go back and add this side Front: Inside: Hidden entrance: The next level down will be the main lab: The next level down on the left will house the HoA charging stations for the current, in use armors: On the right will be a "trophy room" where captured enemy armors are stored, reverse engineered and counter measure armors are built. Bottom level will store the Hall of Armor itself I built the mountain in two afternoons, total cost of supplies was 20.00.

Very cool. Right now it has a Fortress of Solitude arctic feel mixed with a Batcave-esque look. Can't wait to see where this is going.

It'll probably retain some of the Batcaveness, but the FoS will be gone after I paint it. I'll post reference pics with the final product as well, to show inspiration. This is my first attempt at something like this, I've been wanting to try this for YEARS!

This is my first attempt at something like this, I've been wanting to try this for YEARS! As one building a playset too, it is a cool feeling, ain't it? I imagine your painting skills will make this sumbtich look spectacular once you're finished. What are your plans for sealing the foam layers? What did you cut the foam with? What all tidbits do you plan to add in (Trek Bridge, etc?)? Where's the regular entrance if the secret one is up top in the foreskin?

I have been dying to make something like this, I just didnt know what to use. 1. I plan on sealing the foam with spackle. Not sure about the floors just yet. 2. I cut it with a fully serrated Spyderco Police model knife and a regular box knife. 3. Tidbits do include stuff from the Trek bridge and whatever goodies I can come across. Still looking for cool shit, to be quite honest. 4. Regular entrance is the piece of foam that is slightly pushed in next to the Mark VI in the front view pics. Its on a hinge.

Awesome!
You totally have to add a multi level escape tube! Like a piece of drainpipe with holes cut out for every floor, and a 1/4 pipe at the end so you can slide the figures down haha.
Can't wait to see more progress pics.

you could make a "tube elevator" by inserting a tube that has a lengthlong slit in it and then having a platform on the iside of the tube that has a handle sticking through the slit... then that handle could be accessible from the outside of the playset so that you can lift the figure up simulating an elevator... then at each floor cut a "door" into the tube. just an idea.
great project. I'm going to go with a much more modern "garage" type look to my HOA if I ever get the project going.
you should also look into adding lighting to this as it'd look 100 times cooler!

Update as promised. The top third of this and the waterfall area was covered in plaster spackle then all of it was covered in plaster cloth. There is one layer over the whole thing, its nice and sturdy on the outside. I did all of this in an afternoon. I plan on working on the inside of it today. Gonna trim back some of the excess foam. Here is the front view: The front view with a little better look at the hidden entrance: A close up of the ground level entrance: (It has stairs molded into it, hard to see here) There is a hole in the "rock" where IM could get to the main entrance via flying Side view: Close up of the entrance/"balcony" on the second level. 3/4 side view. You can see where the waterfall entrance is going to be there on the side: Side view, showing the waterfall entrance. Sculpted stairs from main entrance to the floor of the HoA level Close up of the waterfall entrance.

Most cool. Would Tony be the type to leave interior steps be stone? Where is this place? Its not his LA home, and obviously nowhere near NYC, so maybe his half-way pitstop in the Rockies?

Yeah, I am kinda stealing this idea from the comics and making it my own. Backstory will be that he keeps only the current working armor with him. All the rest in NYC/LA or anywhere else would be mock-ups only. All the working variants he keeps in a secret lab in the middle of nowhere (this one is probably in the Rockies, the one I am basing this off of was in Afghanistan, though he had several in the comics) If his current armor has been destroyed or is non-functional, he can enter the facility on foot, with an armor, he has several methods of entry and would only be a short flight away.

Holy shit! Where has this been hiding? This is the kind of playset I would have loved as a kid (not that I ever really grew up). So many awesome features equals endless play value. I can't wait to see the next update let alone see it finished.

This didn't work.
It was not a good idea to start with. There was no way I could have painted stuff in this thing as far back as it went and the minimal available space. Not to mention there was no way this thing this would have ever held all of the armors. Something this size SHOULD. It weighed a ton.
So, I cut it up.
But I didn't throw it away.
I'm working on it again. It is now going to be a 3 piece sectional playset. The sections wont be physically connected, but it'll be close enough for play value. Each section will also have a flat roof so that I can add on to the playset at anytime in the future with another section.
The goals of this current project: It'll be sectional. It'll be easy to add on to it in the future. It will hold a minimum of 75 armors. It will have some playset gimmicks like a hidden armor room, hidden exit/entrance, lab and any other ideas I can come up with.
Open to suggestions on that last part.
I should have some decent pics tomorrow.

Poor Hawk. I will start picking my memory for gimmicks. It needs an energy portal to 43.

Don't be too sad, I got a shitton of work done on it yesterday. It looks, well, not great yet, but a hell of a lot more playable and functional than the original try.
