Even though the rifle JV comes with is very accurate it is over half a century old. Even older in the "near future" joeverse. So I am working on finding a futuristic, yet similar design. Digging through my fodder boxes I found a TGC cast. And oddly enough it looks exactly like a hightech version of JV's gun, at least to me, just without the barrel. So a little cleaning and drilling and voila. What do you think? It is still quite large, and would still be an anti armor rifle. But I think it has a nice updated look to it. I still think it needs some lengthening of the original barrel, but probably not as much as the full JV attachment. Maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of it. I dont want to cut up my only original though so I am still looking. But with a little modification, a second handle perhaps, some contouring, and I think I will have a win.

That's cool. A great base for a modern version of this rifle. I agree with you that the barrel needs something to make it fit better.

I am not 100% on using the JV barrel. Anyone know of a long barreled laser rifle that might blend nicely?

Good eye! Maybe check out some Star Wars guns. Unfortunately, I'm useless when it comes to Star Wars parts.

the sandtrooper rifle might work.
I don't see what the problem is with using old weaponry. if it works it works. The military has been using old equipment for years because it is proven to work and work well, untill there is a need to change it they keep using it. Since it's an anti-armor gun the only thing that I see maybe changing would be the anti-armor bullets to better adapt to new armors... not the gun that fires them. but that's my two cents...

I don't have a problem with it being old equipment either, I just thought I would give it an update. I did find out that the original gun that is a mold of came with a barrel.

So with the barrel that gun looks even better. A user or two on JC are sending me the original so I can get it gang molded and make it available to anyone else who wants to upgrade to a newer looking weapon.

I ain't got no help for this particular item, but I do recognize the new bit as a Gundam weapon. Which, as a garage caster, you should look into more, man. Not a lot of people really noticed the Gundam stuff when it was here, but aside from some rubberyness, the weapons were outstandingly cool. HLJ has some things that might catch your eye ( an in-stock set of Gundam gear, and a Backordered set), and the Sales page with full figs and gear doesn't hurt to browse thru. Stick to the 1/100 and 1/144 scale items to keep the weapons within Joe-scale.

yeah I have a handful of 1:144 stuff I have been considering casting up. But with the amount of original pieces I have going, copy work goes to the back burner. Unless it turns out to be something I REALLY want. like this gun.
