And you made your spools from? actually I made them from the circular pieces off of the ROC viper's backpack... the part that rolls up the grappling hook's string. I broke the spool off the backpack and then cut off the large peg that attached it to the backpack. Then I drilled a hole in the back of each arm and used the "handle" on eac circular piece as a peg to attach it to the arms. This allows a little bit of wiggle room to rotate the spools around and worked fairly well.

Sweet! I got a few of those laying around. I had several just laying around as well... and I hate that stupid back pack so I figured I wouldn't be upset tearing them up. How are you making your armored skirt for the figure?

Not sure, might have some Gundam bits laying around. I'm going to do heavy work on it once I get my WA Drone in hand.

started work on the "skirt armor" today. I finally decided that I would have to scratch build the pieces to get the look that I wanted, so I started on that today. I used foam-core polystyrene sheet (it's much easier to cut) and began cutting out rough shapes for the front pieces. I then took and started to litterally carve and widdle the parts out of those rough shapes. here is what I have so far:

Looks good. I'm going to have to rout through my shit for that Gundam skirt, might work nicely. Did you attach a new neck to the drone?

heres a shot of the back half of the skirt that I've gotten finished. The back two pieces are made in the same way, by carving out individual segments and then gluing them along a strip of pleather so that they can bend and flow with the posing of the legs. I'm realy happy with the way these came out and I realy want to re-do the front center cod-piece of the armor as I think it doesn't quite look right.... also you can see how I've used the "spools" from the viper backpacks to wrap the extra whips from the weapons assault drone onto as whiplash's extended whips...

Nice. With the skirt in place, you could trim the shit from the front of the hips to improve articulation.

Spud, you doing the pistons that go from the spools to the back? I'm going to see if I can find some, but I'm not sure how to impliment them & retain movement. Leaning toward Comic War Machine as the base for my Vanko head. Or a heavily modded Drone head.

I was trying to come up with something for those pistons last night and couldn't think of anything. I'd like them to be working pistons if possible so I may try and scratch build something. That way they wouldn't restrict movement as much.
If nothing else I might cut the pistons from the back shoulder pads of an iron monger and use those.
still don't know what I'll use for the helmeted head.

Found the Gundam skirts I was looking for. Smaller than I remember, but I think some Halo shoulder pads added to them will work perfectly.

started painting on a layer of primer. don't know what the final color should be, any suggestions? I was going to go with a toned down gun-metal.... also in this newest photo you'll see that I rebuilt the front skirt-armor segment, and raised the two leg segments slightly. I think this looks more movie-acurate than it did before. I also removed the spools and whips for painting... that's why they are absent in this photo.

I'd go grey with silver detailing & a black wash, that's what I'm planning. Sculpted Vanko's head. Did it from memory, so it probably won't be 100% accurate, but I like it.

Looks way better with the repositioned skirt.
What's sad is that if Hasbro do make a version of this, it's going to suck in comparison.

thanks guys, your encouragement is much appreciated. I hope that when I have it finished the paint-job wont completely ruin all my hard work... as so often happens with my figures i've decided to paint the majority of the figure with "gunship grey", a darker collored grey than the light grey primer I used to coat the figure before-hand. I'll then go back and detail the figure with silver and black and then give it a black dry-brushing for weathering. I'm trying to go slow, doing one layer and color of paint at a time, and only doing half of the figure at a time... this has been an excersize in my patience as I'm usually painting a figure up very quickly and usually wind up ruining it or messing it up because I rush it. besides the painting I have re-sculpted vanko's hair by cutting off the bottom part of the original's head sculpt and using aves apoxi sculpt to fashion a "bun tuft" in the back, similar to what you see in the movie (I hope).
