Howdy, all;
Here's a couple of dudes I've had in eterna-WIP for a while, waiting for some ideas to gel before I finish them up along with some other figs. Figured some of you might dig seeing my train of thought of how to make some decent Star Trek figs after the insults we got from PlayMates.
Ignore the head on the redshirt, I'd originally thought to do some Mirror Universe guys and modded a RoC Zartan head to look like a scruffy dude with an optical chip on his shoulder. Ensign Ricky will be getting another clean-cut head before much longer.
The basic recipe is a 25A SE torso (for the crewneck collar) and RoC Stone legs (for the short boots and undetailed pants). The first fig has ShockWave arms (found a SW/NC set at Ross last week, woot!) and the other has RoC Breaker arms (couldn't find another Breaker, or else I would've gone with them arms instead of the SW arms). Also, they both have the shirt from a PlayMates Trek fig cut off across the chest, just below the bottom edge of the StarFleet insignia, and hollowed out. I filed down the SE abdomen and the bottom half of the chest to accomodate the hollowed-out Trek shirt, and glued the shirt to the chest. The thinner the Trek shirt is drilled out and the more the SE bits are filed down, the more freer the guy's movement will be. I also took the opportunity to extend the groove at the top of the abdomen to increase his bending range of motion. Once the Trek shirt is glued to the SE chest, I smoothed out the seam with some more superglue and filing-down.
