4 Days ago I decided I wanted to teach myself how to use 3D modelling software. I downloaded Google Sketchup and went to work. In this thread I will post my 3D models. All of the items I post here are also available for purchase on Shapeways.com. You can choose different plastics to have the pieces printed in. I recomend the Transparent Detail or Frosted Ultra Detail for items with small accents. The Web address for Shapeways Shop is www.shapeways.com/shops/hunterartworksGo look around there is some fun stuff at that site. As I order pieces that I draw I will post some real life shots as well.

Great stuff, man! I've seen that site before but I don't have the patience for it.
You know what people want too. Is this something you're going to cast for the store when you get it?

Absolutely no need for me to cast it. Once I upload it, anyone who wants one can buy it. The only snafu of the site is that you have to place a minimum orde of $25.00. But from what I have been told shipping is free.

About how long does it take for you to work up one of these models? And I'm keenly interested in seeing the finished piece once you get one in. How big a single piece can they do? There's no need to leave one or more sides smooth like on 2piece-molds, so the item can slide out of the mold?

Great stuff!
Hmm this site could be the answer to getting physical 3d versions of starship models I have made over the years....

Looks like you got some cool stuff in the works Sean. You still gonna cast the Reach jetpack?

I think the largest they can make is just under 1 cubic foot 1X1X1 block. Thy use a 3D printer so no, there is no need to leave any flat surfaces. I have seen video ofth process, it is pretty damn cool.

Also, whiskey. Whiskey and Quaaludes. While as a medical professional, I cannot endorse this, I also cannot deny its efficacy.

The cost woul go up and down from it depending on how much detail is pulled up from or pushed into the surface. EDIT** The plate is uploaded. Shapeways is not your answer. A 6 inch X 6 inch X .25 inch solid plate is is 142.91 cubic centemeters of material. In the least expensive plastic the price for such a piece of material would be $123.68. Even hollowed out I doubt you would get anything under $75 per plate.

Honestly, I’ve wanted modular dio-sets for so long I think I wanna take a stab at it myself. I should monkey with the program by doing some li’l bits like you; but it’s all about building a big-ass Evil Lair over here at the Veidt household.
Actually, I think I’m gonna start with some objects of power, like the Ultimate Nullifier or the Casket of Ancient Winters, stuff like that we may never get from Hasbro. I’ll need to brainstorm some DC items since Mattel is sure and certain to never give us those.

Now, this may be a stupid question but... do you as the "creator" make anything when someone buys a piece on the shapeways site? I'd like to think that even a few hours worth of work on your part would produce some slight income for you from the site, and not let them take all the profit.
I'm interested in seeing what the finished pieces look like in hand. I've seen some video of some products produced by these 3D printers and while some were cool, others - not so much. Wouldn't it better (for you at least) to create these, order one to use as a "master", and then mold/cast them and put them in your ecrater store?

YIKES, I just saw the prices on some of those backpacks. While I can appreciate the amount of work that it took, and can understand that it costs something to produce these... that's just a little bit crazy of a price. Do you set those prices or does Shapeways?

Check this link SWG. It explains how you can make money if you set up a store. Shipping is also included in the price. Buy and SellI remember somebody posting 1:18 heads that were listed on shapeways. Not a bad deal to set up a store. You make a design and let shapeways do the rest. Edit: Here's the heads, they're by Venksta Customs. Slice Ninja headNinja head 2Overkill

Yeah the jetpacks that I scaled up to marvel legends size are really pricey. Bamphalas wanted some in scale with a project he is working on. I don't expect anyone to buy hem, but you never know so I left them up. The Joe scale ones come in around 10, one a little more, one a little less.

For those wondering if I am making anything, I have it set to give me One Dollar for every item that is sold. I couldn't justify adding a ton of mark-up. What is the sense of making something that no one can afford? Lookin at you leader class transformers. When Is tart ordering my pieces I will look at casting them. The great part about 3D printing is that you can design pieces that would be impossible to mold and cast well. As far as the quality of the pieces, I have seen some of the ones made by Fakebusker over on TFW2005, and if you order them in the higher detail plastic they come out nice. If you order the lower end plastic you loose detail. I haden't seen Venska's pieces, he moved to a different company, I didn't know he still had a Shapeways up.
