Get in the Gate Custom Contest
Sponsored by Asphalt of Hunter Artworks
November 2- January 1st.
An Ancient alien artifact, code named a “Stargate”, has been discovered in the Antarctic. A new government agency calling itself Stargate Command has rushed to contain the gate and cover up all evidence of its existence. What is the SGC? Is it an ally of the Joe Team, or of Cobra? What will be the fate of the earth if either of these groups gains control? Where does the gateway lead and what will the victors find on the other side? You decide.
Stargate is arguably one of the best TV franchises in Sci-Fi history. It has something for everyone, Military Squads, hi-tech Advanced Beings, evil aliens trying to enslave the universe, peoples and places from every imaginable place or time in history. So with all of that material to choose from, I challenge you to step through the gate into the Stargate Universe.
Contest Catagories:
1. Create an original Stargate Character or Team.
A. An original Offworld Team. Create a group sent out from Stargate Command, Joe Headquarters, or Cobra Island to explore a new environment or meet a new threat. Is the team from the SGC? What would it look like if the Joes or if Cobra gain control of the Second Earth Gate.
B. An Original Science Team. Create a group of bookworms sent through the Chappa'ai to investigate a set of ruins or a new alien eco system. A team could consist of at least three members or two members and their equipment or objects of interest.
C. System Lord and his warriors. Create an existing or all new Goa'uld, his First Prime, and Jaffa guard. They set themselves up as God’s, show us their alien hubris in all its glory.
D. Ori Priors. The hands of the Ori, the evil parasites of the Pegasus Galaxy. Create a group of at least one Ori and two brainwashed converts.
E. Aliens. Create a group of Aliens that might be encountered when travelling the stars. Are they Human? Are they Non-human? What culture do they emulate? Are they Viking barbarians? Are they Advanced high technology paramilitary extremists? Are they Elizabethan Steam Punk explorers? Stargate allows for all time periods to mix and mingle in a single universe, show us your take on who the SG teams might meet.
2. Beast and Rider/Vehicle and Driver. Everybody needs to get around somehow don’t they? Create that means of transportation and the individual who uses it. Again, thanks to the Stargate universe, this combination could range from a Model T and turn of the century American Hot-rodder, to alien cowboys, to fusion powered racing Star fighters.
3. Diorama. Create a set for an adventure.
Prizes:
As many of you may know I am the owner of Hunter Artworks. I will be providing prize packs made up of Stargate themed casts and store credit. There will be a minimum of Three prizes for First, Second, and Third place. The more entrants I get the more prize packs I will make. For example, If at least 4 teams are submitted they will be voted on in their own category, the same with vehicles, and dios.
Submission Guidelines to follow.
Submission Guidelines
1. All creations must be in 1:18 scale. Figures and accessories from any line and era are permitted as long as they are in 3 ¾ scale.
2. All creations submitted in the single figure category must be created new for this contest. No previously shown figures will be eligible. Previously created figures/accessories may be submitted as part of a group category, as long as at least 50% of the entry is created new for the contest. The one exception is that no creations that have been entered in previous contests may be used.
3. All entries must be posted in the Customs Contest Section by 12:00 noon EST on January 1st 2012. All Threads must contain the Phrase “Stargate Contest Entry.” Once you have posted your entry in the contest section you may post it anywhere else you wish.
4. Each entry post must contain at least four, no more than six, unaltered photographs clearly showing the figures/vehicles/dio you created. Remember, it is easier to get votes if the board members can see your work clearly.
Voting:
As entries are posted I will compile them into a single voting thread. On the afternoon of January first, I will collect and post the last of the entries. Voting will be held from January 3rd until January 6th. If there are enough entries to break them up into multiple categories, I will create a separate voting thread for that category.
JC user Turner is also letting me use his old customs to advertise.
I did the base coat on my entry tonight, so I may be able to get it down if the paints turn out well.
