Back in 2005, SOTA toys showed prototype pics of what was to be Micronauts Evolution line. Sadly these figures never got produced. I have wanted to make a Lobros based on the prototype for some time. I finally started work on it. Here is the prototype origional: Here is what I have done so far. I think Jimbo may be the only person on the board the even remembers the Micronauts, though wanted to let you guys see that I do actually still work on customs. Though not shown in the pics, I do have the articulated pinchers in the works at this moment as well.

Stunning. That looks awesome so far, it should be amazing once...if...you finish it.

This one has haunted me for too long to not finish.
Also learned that sculpting chitonous exoskeletons and coral is not as difficult as I thought it would be.

I'd be interested to hear the technique.

Holy shit that's awesome! That looks so much more badass than the original toy! I'd have snapped those up in a second at retail. Did you sculpt that head & chest piece? It's quite impressive. Going to make Reptos & the others?

I, too, remember the Micronauts (had all of the comics and a few of the toys) and I have to say that is fucking awesome!

Thanks guys! Yes Viper, Repto is next on my list. I have been going though parts that might be suitable, though thinking he might end up being a complete sculpt-over like this one will be. The head, helmet and torso are all sculpted. The underneath framework is a combo of a stormtrooper and a croc-master torso I had sitting nearby. I am definitely thinking the most difficult part to sculpt will be that Trilobite Shield.

Also thinking that once I can afford to get ahold of some fixit-sculpt again, instead of the very old magic-sculpt I have been working with, that I might make a Lobros 2.0. I know I can get better details with the Fixit.
Oh ya and the brain is painted with glow in the dark paint, to keep with the theme of the origional figure back in the day.

Some updates: sculpted a little more on the torso, did some more grinding on the limbs in prep for the sculpting on them. Added the upper legs and patched some holes in the arms. That and the first set of claws were too fragile so decided to go with a styrene base for the internal parts that I would sculpt over. Finished drybrushing, inkwashing and clear coating the helmet as a test for the rest. I am pleased with how it turned out.

That is...just wow...I'm floored. I never thought about using styrene to sculpt over for articulated parts before. Usually I just sculpt it with the articulation. You just opened up a whole new avenue for me.

I also used styrene to replace the knee articulation on an iron man figure that I had painted white. (so if there was paint rub it would still be white underneath instead of purple.) Here is another small update. dremeled down limbs more and did some sculpting of feet, lower legs and upper arm, of the upper set of arms. Really hoping to get the rest of the limbs all sculpted today and then tackle the pinchers, blaster arm and shield arm tomorrow. With any luck have this beast painted day after tomorrow.

OK body is finished being sculpted, just need to do the reworked pinchers, blaster and shield now. Then I can paint the beast.

that is all kinds of epic right there. I have no knowledge of the original microman lines, but from the reference pics it looks pretty awesome.

I loved the "evolutions" version of Lobros. The origional version was, well, extremely goofy looking...even compared to other micronauts of the time era.

Update, Sunday Feb 12, 2012 Now that I am feeling better I got a little bit more done on Mr. Lobros here... Modified and added the claw framework. Broke some of the sculpting on one of the arms attaching but that's fine I need to resculpt the ends of the arms where they will overlap the claw articulation. Also the Blaster appendage is 95% finished. Just need some touch up sculpting details. Also prepped the styrene outline for the shield. Now to sculpt the shield and the claws.
